In 2021, she received the 2022 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Dance for her evocative and intuitive performance style that blends elements of contemporary, modern and narrative dance traditions, and for her commitment to furthering her own practice through instruction, collaboration, and mentorship. Meaningful Difference
Tamisha A. Guy sees performance as not only a profession but also a lifelong passion that can be harnessed to make a meaningful difference. My hope is to be authentic and intentional in my work, to serve as a source of inspiration to other artists hoping to lead a career in the art form. Through authenticity I see a bridge that allows viewers to not only have an emotional or visceral response, but allows the opportunity and space for them to reflect on their own experiences. Being my most present and honest self on stage has not only transformed my performance but it helps me to think about my deeper purpose and contribution to the art form. I hope to pay it forward in my work as a dance artist, instructor and as I continue to tap into my other interests.
